The Artist and Musician Guide to Quitting Your Day Job edition by Brian Kelly SelfHelp eBooks

The main purpose of this book is to inspire you to stop making excuses and finally start taking steps towards CREATING your own personal dream life.
I did the 9 to 5 thing for years. I was a mechanical engineer at a mid-sized company, and I was making pretty good money. I had full benefits, 4 weeks of vacation per year, and received generous bonuses twice per year. The office life just wasn’t for me though, nor was any other sort of “9 to 5” life for that matter. It just never felt right to me spending all of my time doing something that I really didn’t enjoy. I didn’t like getting up at the crack of dawn every day. I didn’t like having a “boss” telling me what I could and couldn’t do, when I was allowed to go on vacation, how I should dress, etc. I also didn’t like letting my creativity fall by the wayside due to the fact that all of my time was occupied doing something that I really did not enjoy. My job paid well, but it was really just a matter of going through the motions every day and every week as I waited in anticipation for the weekend to come. Of course, the weekends always flew by in the blink of an eye, and I was right back at it come Monday morning. Ugh...I hated it!
I spent my entire life following the "9 to 5 plan" as I was told that I should do. I went to school and had several part time jobs until I was 23 years old, operating under the same "9 to 5 hours" as every one else. After I completed school, I continued to just mindlessly do what I was told that I was supposed to be doing. After I completed school and began supporting myself, I let an additional 7 years of my life pass me by sitting in an office, doing something that I had absolutely no interest in whatsoever; I did it all in exchange for a weekly paycheck.
I thought that I may be able to find something better if I just put the time into actually seeking out a job that was at least somewhat more interesting to me than what I was doing. However, I had absolutely no motivation to seek out another mundane 9 to 5 job. I knew that there were certain things that I enjoyed doing in life such as playing music, training martial arts, writing, etc., but I also knew that I was an adult with bills to pay. Therefore, I needed to work some sort of full-time job in order to make a living. I also figured that in order to make enough money to pay my bills, that I needed to accept the fact that I would just have to "suck it up" and go to some sort of uninspiring job every day. I just accepted the fact that I had no other options, because I knew no other way. I mean, how many people actually enjoy what they do for a living? That's not the way that we were raised. We were raised to believe that in order to be a productive member of society, you must work for a living. Work is not fun, but it is a necessary fact of life.
It wasn’t until I turned 30 years old that I made the decision to leave that lifestyle. My last day as an "employee" was May 15th, 2012. I will never EVER go back to being an employee ever again! I realized that if I didn’t leave NOW, than I would forever fall victim to the “someday” syndrome. However, I also understood that “someday” would never come, and even if it did come, why should I wait until some arbitrary date in the distant future to actually do what I wanted to do with my life? I didn't want to just "settle" for another uninspiring job. I didn't want to allow "making good money" to override my true desires. I wanted to live my life EXACTLY as I wanted to, and I wanted to do it NOW!
My “dream life” was to have no job at all. Just the mere idea of "self-employment" was something that I fantasized about every single day but never thought was possible. I live that life now, and it's amazing. I would never ever want to go back to the life of being an employee again.
In this book I simply lay out all of my philosophies and methods as to how I created my own dream life for myself. You can do it too!

I have a burning passion for writing and I hope to become a career writer someday. When I saw this book on Amazon I jumped at it.I loved the author's idea that the first and hardest step is changing your mindset. You have to go from all the reasons you can't to finding ways you can. The books is worth the price for the author's ideas alone.
What keeps this book from being a five star book is the lack of specifics. I already have my burning passion. I was hoping for more concrete advice on how artist and creative types can set up their home business. If you are looking for business plans, budgets, etc. this isn't that book. Even so the ideas in this book are well worth it.
